Autodesk’s 1982 version was the world’s first computer-aided design (CAD) system. That year, Autodesk published AutoCAD, an integrated suite of tools designed to work together, to draw and edit a model of any type. Its drawings could be shared by many users, by e-mail or by fax. The first version of AutoCAD was based on a proprietary drawing format, which meant that any changes to the file after it was created could result in the loss of its original format. These types of changes would result in the model having to be recreated from scratch. This would result in significant production time delays, which was unacceptable in a fast-paced industry.
Autodesk released the first public beta of AutoCAD on February 5, 1982, almost nine months after the first release date. The first public beta was based on version 1.0 of the system.
AutoCAD 1981 The first release of AutoCAD was developed by Dave Turek and Tomorow Hall. The original release was used internally by Turek and Hall’s company, LandDesign. The original version was a development product, meaning that it was targeted at LandDesign and their customers. The original release supported a subset of the functionality of AutoCAD, including planar and solids modelling.
Version 1.0 (1982) 1.0 was the first public release of AutoCAD. The first public release included the addition of a number of new features, including parametric modelling and generalised support for block-based engineering drawings. The first public release included the introduction of the DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file format.
The original version was released in December 1982, nine months after AutoCAD had been in development. The price for a license was US$7,500, with the first year free of charge. For the first year, users could purchase a license for US$5,000. The cost was raised to US$7,500, as
the other application interfaces are merely provided for convenience, and they can easily be exchanged with other applications through a software product from another vendor.
A new graphics layer named Layer Exported produced by the user’s layer from the drawings
AutoCAD 2010 and 2013 now have GIS capability in the DGN file format, not just DXF.
AutoCAD started as CAD-40 and AutoDraw on January 1, 1982, and was written by Chuck Suhr. It was released in 1985 and initially sold for $499 with a laser printer and $699 with a plotter. It was renamed to AutoCAD in 1989 and available at a cost of $695 for the basic model and $995 for the Professional. The first licensees were in Italy and Germany.
In late 2009, a beta version of AutoCAD 2012 was made available to beta testers. Unlike earlier versions of AutoCAD, AutoCAD 2012 is compatible with Windows Vista. The next release, AutoCAD 2013, has many new features, including XREF tables, the ability to place views anywhere on the screen, the ability to collapse and expand the drawing window, and the ability to add multiple layers. AutoCAD 2013 has a new version of the AutoLISP programming language. AutoCAD 2012’s feature set is also similar to that of AutoCAD 2011.
In January 2015, AutoCAD 2014 was announced. The Windows 64-bit version of AutoCAD 2014 debuted in early June 2015.
The 2016 release of AutoCAD was AutoCAD 2016, with a beta version launched for development on December 13, 2015. It is the first release of AutoCAD since 2008 and the first release since 2007 that is not associated with a release number. AutoCAD 2017 followed with the release of AutoCAD 2017 New.

Hard times greet SME bankers
A survey of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) has found that one in five of them have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This report is from the Institute for Business Leadership (IBR)
October 04, 2020
A survey of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) has found that one in five of them have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
And, of these, almost one in four (23%) reported that they were forced to close their business at least for the time being due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The survey was conducted on behalf of the Institute for Business Leadership (IBR) and of the Bank of England and the UK Financial Conduct Authority. It was completed by over 250 of the UK’s most dynamic SMEs, which account for around 80% of all UK firms.
The IBR report, ‘Bridging the Generation Gap’, examines how the coronavirus pandemic has changed the dynamics of the SME sector, and the support it has had from the banking sector and government.
The survey found that 85% of the SMEs surveyed felt the coronavirus pandemic had brought about a period of uncertainty, while 76% reported a disruption in the way they work.
Almost three-quarters (73%) of the SMEs surveyed said that they had had to increase staff costs due to the coronavirus pandemic and 63% said that they had increased staff costs due to the delay in access to bank finance caused by the pandemic.
Sixty-two per cent of SMEs surveyed said they had to increase funding costs because of the pandemic, while 64% reported that their customers’ finances had been affected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Half of SMEs (50%) said that they were trying to prepare their business for the future as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and 74
